This one-day Conference sponsored by the Department of Mental Health and California Institute for Mental Health (CiMH) will address the overall quality of mental health clinical and service data. This conference will benefit quality improvement coordinators, data analysts, MHSA planners, clinicians, consumers, family members, clerical staff responsible for data management, and county mental health managers.

The conference addresses the following questions:

  • How do we know our data is valid and reliable?
  • When do we decide to deliberately use data we know are "grade B?"
  • What problems do we encounter with data collected at the beginning of the consumer-services relationship?
  • What are the key data points throughout the consumer's relationship with the staff and with the organization?
  • What are the hallmarks of good data collection practices?
  • How can consumers/family members, clinicians and administrative staff collaborate to improve the quality of data?
  • How can technology support these efforts, especially as we move towards electronic health records?

Expert speakers and panelists representing counties with exemplar practices will address the factors that affect reliability and validity of data throughout the phases of the treatment relationship between clinicians and consumers, family members, youth and children.
